1. IBEW / NJATC (electrical training ALLIANCE) aptitude test

Used by many union JATCs. 33 algebra and functions questions in 46 minutes, then 36 reading comprehension questions in 51 minutes. Scored 1–9. Full guide

2. GAN Aptitude Test Battery

A different battery, from a different administrator (GAN Human Resources Associates). 13 of the 43 JATCs we have checked use it, including Los Angeles, Denver, Phoenix, Detroit, Washington DC, Boston, Minneapolis, Columbus and Fresno. It is not the eTA test with a new name: it adds Paper Folding and Mechanical Reasoning, and is scored 0–100 combined with a Personal Experience Form and a letter of recommendation instead of on the 1–9 band. 3. Ramsay Electrical Test

Mechanical and electrical reasoning. Common at non-union and industrial employers. Full guide

4. Wonderlic / Wonderlic SLE

50 questions in 12 minutes. Speed matters. Some IEC programs use it.

5. ABC Electrical Apprenticeship Test

Used by Associated Builders and Contractors. Format varies by chapter — typically reading + math.

How to know which to study

Call the local apprenticeship office and ask which battery they use. Then check our local pages — each one lists the battery that JATC publishes, with the source and the date we checked it. If yours is on GAN, read the GAN aptitude test guide before you study anything else: preparing only algebra and reading leaves you short on paper folding and mechanical comprehension.
