NJATC Aptitude Test (2026)

The "NJATC aptitude test" and the "IBEW aptitude test" are the same thing. The National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) was rebranded as the electrical training ALLIANCE in 2014. The battery is developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research and administered through IBEW/NECA local JATCs. It is not the only battery in use, though: 13 of the 43 JATCs we have checked use the separate GAN battery instead, so check yours before you study anything.

What that means for you — if your local uses this battery

• The same 97-minute, two-section format.
• The same 1–9 scoring band. GAN locals have no band at all.
• The minimum is set by each local and varies. Check your local's page.

What to study

Algebra and functions, reading comprehension. Nothing else is on the electrical training ALLIANCE battery. The "NJATC" branding doesn't change the content. See our IBEW aptitude test guide for the full breakdown.

First check that your local still uses it

13 of the 43 JATCs we have checked use the GAN battery instead, including Los Angeles, Denver, Phoenix, Detroit, Washington DC, Boston, Minneapolis, Columbus and Fresno. We cannot speak to the national share; nobody publishes one. If yours has moved, NJATC-era study material is the wrong material entirely: GAN adds paper folding and mechanical comprehension and is scored 0–100 alongside a Personal Experience Form.
