What to bring, what to send, what not to forget.
Required documents (most locals)
- High school diploma or GED — official transcript
- Valid driver's license
- Birth certificate or passport
- DD-214 (if veteran)
- One year of high school algebra (transcript proof)
- Application fee (varies by local — typically $25–50)
Process
- Find your local at ibew.org.
- Submit application + documents.
- Take the aptitude test (if your application is accepted).
- Score band 4+ to qualify for interview.
- Pass the interview.
- Get on the eligibility list — wait for a call.
Don't screw this up
- Submit early. Late applications get rejected, no exceptions.
- Show up on test day with a photo ID and two #2 pencils.
- Keep your phone in your car. Phones in the test room = automatic disqualification.
- Dress decent for the interview. Clean jeans and a collared shirt is fine.
